Favourite Lip Products

Well it’s official, schedules and I do not work, so for the time being I’m going to post when the inspiration hits me. I’ll still be posting weekly but some weeks may have more posts than others. This is meant to be fun so I’m not going to turn it into a job.

This post is about my favourite lip products. I don’t have that many products because lipsticks in Australia tend to be really expensive and I always seem to gravitate towards eye products and foundation/tinted moisturisers but there are a few that I love and wear a lot. I also included one in here that I don’t use so often but love anyway. So here they are…

  1. ChaCha Tint by Benefit Cosmetics
  2. Pink Sand 005 by Maybelline
  3. Juicy Bubblegum 140 Colorsensational by Maybelline
  4. Alarm 170 Lasting Finish Lipstick by Rimmel
  5. Sunset Peach 516C by Wet n Wild
  6. Salsa Colour Inject Mineral Lipstick by Austalis
  7. Strawberry Lip Health Chapstick
  8. Vanilla Cupcake Flavoured Lipbalm by Peter Alexander

I swatched the colours on my arm to give you an idea of what they looked like but I did them a bit out of order so I’ve kept the numbers the same. Obviously I didn’t swatch the lipbalms because they have no colour so theirs really no point.

CHACHA TINT By Benefit Cosmetics

This is by far my favourite product of the lot. It’s a stain so it lasts a long time and it really helps to even out the tone of my lips. It can also be built up to a really bright coral colour like in the swatch. I don’t find that it dries out my lips that much either which is pretty awesome. It can be used as a liquid blush as well but I rarely use it for that. The bottle is 12.5 mls or 0.45 fl. Oz which is a pretty good amount. The only downside and the reason I will not be purchasing this product when it runs out or dries up is the price. $55 is WAY too expensive for any makeup in my opinion and I cannot for the life of me remember my justification for buying it.

PINK SAND 005 by Maybelline

This is such a pretty sheer pink colour and I probably wear it the most of all of my lipsticks. I use it over my lip stains like some people use a lip gloss (I personally do not like lip glosses which is why none of them are in this list) to give it a really pretty sheen. It has a lot of sparkle in it which I really like. It is so creamy that it feels like I’m wearing a lip balm when I put it on. It unfortunately doesn’t really work that well on its own because the colour is so sheer. It costs $16.95

JUICY BUBBLEGUM 140 Colorsensational by Maybelline

This one is a really nice and flattering light pink and has the same moisturising, creamy consistency of Pink Sand. This one is a lot thicker than Pink Sand and covers more. I often where Pink Sand over the top to add a little more glitter. This one costs the same as Pink Sand, $16.95.

ALARM 170 Lasting Finish Lipstick by Rimmel

This is the only red lipstick that I own and it’s such a nice red. It has a pink undertone which I think looks best on me. This red lasts for so long which is convenient considering the name. I put a red lip liner underneath it to stop it from bleeding. I don’t wear this colour that often because red is a really hard colour to wear everyday and takes more effort to wear than I can usually be bothered with but I really love the colour. It cost $9.95 so if your looking for a nice and cheap lipstick I would recommend taking a look at Rimmel.

SUNSET PEACH 516C by Wet n Wild

This is my favourite coral lipstick. It goes on really smooth and feels very moisturising and the colour is so beautiful. It’s not a bold lipstick but it definitely can be seen. It has a pretty shimmer to it but isn’t overpowering. Wet n Wild is an American brand which you can’t get in stores in Australia as far as I’ve found but I bought this on crushcosmetics.com.au for $4.95 which is crazy cheap in my opinion. Crush Cosmetics is a central coast NSW online store and they do post through Australia Post so postage is around $9.

SALSA Colour Inject Mineral Lipstick by Austalis

I’m a big fan of Australis lipsticks. I usually avoid mineral makeup because my skin has a weird tendency to react to it (don’t ask me why, I thought it was meant to be better for your skin but mine hates mineral makeup) but this one seems fine. This is one of my bolder lip colours which I wear pretty often. It’s a really bright hot pink colour which really compliments my skin tone but is fun at the same time. Australis can be bought at priceline, BigW, Kmart, Target and their online store and probably most other places that sell cosmetics for cheap. This one costs $12.99.

STRAWBERRY Lip Health Chapstick

This is another American brand but this one I think you can buy at coles now. I got mine in my BellaBox which for those of you who don’t know is a $15 a month subscription which sends you a little box of samples and sometimes full sized items as well (I’m due to get mine next week hopefully so I’ll give a little review of it then). This one costs $3.99 on the bella box website. It says that it tastes like strawberries but I’m not so sure (nobody ever gets the flavour right anyway) but it definitely smells like strawberry and it is by far the best lip balm I have ever used. Its super moisturising (yes super) and doesn’t rub off as soon as you lick your lips which gives it a jump on the competition right there. For a really good lip balm its nicely priced too.

VANILLA CUPCAKE Flavoured Lipbalm by Peter Alexander

This one claims to taste like vanilla cupcake and it does. It’s so sweet. This one is not nearly as good as the chapstick but I do tend to use it more because of the smell and the taste. It rubs off a lot sooner but that just gives me an excuse to put it on again. This one was $4.90 and I bought it from the Peter Alexander store but you can also buy it online.

And there you have it, my favourite (for the moment) lip products. This list is a little long for a blog post but I think I gave you a nice description of each of them. So what’s your favourite lip products?

ChiChi Nudes Palette Review

Hi everyone,

For my first real post I thought I would do a review of the ChiChi Nudes palette that I bought a month or two ago (I can’t remember exactly). This is a lot later than I had planned for it but with exams and camera problems (still not resolved) I finally just decided to bite the bullet and put it up. I bought this ChiChi palette from Target Australia but I know that Myer’s  sell it and you can get it on the ChiChi website though I’ve never bought anything from the website before.
ChiChi is an Australian brand that does ship internationally (though it is pretty expensive for those outside Asia Pacific). They sell everything from nailpolish to bath products and I’ve only just become aware of them but so far I’m loving what I’ve bought. Don't worry if your an international reader I will be doing reviews on products I know are available all over the world (I'm thinking of reviewing the Maybelline Colour Tattoos).
There are 8 palette’s like this one sold by chichi but I’ve only tried the Nude’s palette (I do admire all the others when I see them and I’m considering getting the Brights or Gem Stones one). I’ll be reviewing the Nude’s palette today. Hopefully the colours turn out right when I take the photos because my camera decided now was the perfect time for the non-replaceable battery to die so I have to use my phone. I’m going to review this in a few sections to keep things organised and to make it easier to give it a thorough review and a score at the end.

Overview

The Nude palette comes with 12 nude shades (surprise!) ranging from a light cream to a dark grey colour with a mix of shimmer and matte colours. The shimmer colours don’t have big chunks of glitter in them or anything but they do give a really nice sheen. I paid around $20 for this palette but the price fluctuates depending on where you purchase it from, though it’s only by a few dollars.

Consistency and colour payoff
I like the colour payoff because it's not too much, I know that doesn't sound good but hear me out. The colours are all really nice neutral shades and they're really buildable. I am a complete novice when it comes to make up. I only recently moved past a winged liner and am now getting into shading and buffing and all that so for me I need shadows where I can't accidently add too much. That being said the darker colours towards the end of the palette do have plenty of darkness. I've included swatches down the bottom but they're looking a bit dirty and pale so in real life they are a bit more pigmented than they look in the photos. They are VERY shimmery so if you don't like a little (a lot) of shimmer you might not like this palette. There are some matte colours but the majority are shimmery and honestly when you put shimmer shadows next to matte shadows the matte turn to shimmer sooner or later anyway. I personally love shimmer because they make my eyes look bigger but that's just me. They blend really well when I use my elf blending eye brush and they aren't too chalky.

Packaging
I really like the packaging, it’s a thick plastic hinged case that feels pretty sturdy. You can see the products through the clear lid and it clips on nice and tight. The name of the palette on the top has already started to scratch and come off (only slightly and I do use it a lot) but there’s a sticker on the back with the name as well. It comes in a nicely designed box when you buy it (I’ve long since thrown it away) which keeps it safe from other peoples fingers and also means you don’t get that pesky barcode over the top of the name like on a lot of other products. Unfortunately it doesn’t have the ingredients list on the packet anywhere (most likely on the box I barely looked at before throwing away) so be sure to check for ingredients your allergic too.

Overall thoughts
I really like this palette. It comes with 12 nice, usable colours, the packaging can stand up to being thrown around (not literally. I would not recommend taking your anger out on your stuff) and it’s affordable and easy to get (if you’re in Australia). I use this palette almost every time I wear makeup so it is definitely a palette I would recommend if your looking for a compact neutral colour palette. The colours blend well and are pretty buildable without getting chalky or cakey. Overall I am really happy I bought this palette.

Note from the Author: I'd just like to put it in writing that I intend to post twice a week on Wednesday and Friday though as we know life happens.  My camera is still on the fritz so until further notice I will be using my iphone to take pictures so hopefully they won't turn out too bad.

Stay tuned for my next post my favourite lip products
